About the Author
Tony Gaddis is the principal author of the "Starting Out with "series of textbooks. Tony teaches computer science courses at Haywood Community College in North Carolina. He is a highly acclaimed instructor who was previously selected as the North Carolina Community College "Teacher of the Year," and has received the Teaching Excellence award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development. Besides C++ books, the "Starting Out with" series includes introductory books using the Java(TM) programming language, Microsoft(R) Visual Basic(R) .NET, and Microsoft(R) C#(R), all published by Addison-Wesley.
Judy Walters is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. In addition to her many computer science courses, she enjoys teaching a freshman course on film and literature. She also enjoys studying foreign languages and cultures, and recently developed a new course in technology and society, which she taught in Costa Rica Fall 2005, as part of the college's international studies program.
Godfrey Muganda is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, where he chairs the Computer Science Department. He teaches a wide variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels including courses in Object-Oriented Programming, Comparative Programming Languages, and Complier Design. His primary research interests are in the Fuzzy Sets and Systems. He won the North Central College faculty award for outstanding scholarship in 1993.


Kip Irvine has written four computer programming textbooks, for Intel Assembly Language, C++, Visual Basic, and COBOL. His "Assembly Language for Intel-Based Computers" has been translated to six languages, and has been a best seller since 1990. Kip grew up in Hawaii as a surfer, sailor, and surfboard maker. He studied classical guitar and music composition at University of Hawaii, eventually earning his music doctorate from the University of Miami. He began programming computers for music synthesis around 1982, and taught at Miami-Dade Community College. He has a Masters degree in Computer Science from the University of Miami, and is currently on the computer science faculty at Florida International University.

Congradulations Anne Hoppus! A fantastic blink book!

I remember sitting in university art class with Anne Hoppus one day , and she remarked that she would like to be a writer. Now i believe her. Having been a fan of blink for many years, I found that Anne's book was touching and brought back wonderful memories of all the early shows and observing the band on the sidelines go through a tremendous rise to stardom.
The pictures are fantastic, a few of which I believe have never left the Hoppus bedroom archives. However, as with any band biography, some information is incorrect. There is no mention of the Short Bus 7", for example. Also, Scott's leaving the band is handled rather blandly, with no mention of alcohol, fights with Jordan or the infamous incident at the Hotel Coronado that left Scott's heels broken.
I highly recommend the book to any fan of blink. If you are a more recent admirer, it will be interesting for you to see the band's long history on the local scene in San Diego. But if you've been around awhile, and remember blink in the dungeon at Soma or the sidestage definately buy it! You might catch yourself in one of the many audience pictures.

ecxellent blink fan book

this is a very good, well thought out and full of blink history book. i blew through it in about 5 hours, as soon as i started reading it i didnt want to stop! very recommended for any blink fan, only goes up to right after the release of enema (wish it went all the way to now!) but either way it is a great book, full of pictures and little tid bits i never knew

Tales from beneath a great band.

Everyone,
I just got this book, and it was great. I became a huge blink-182 fan about 2 years ago, I have all of their CDs, I saw them in concert this past summer, and I wanted to know more about the band(beyond what you see on MTV). This book gives you information about how the band started, where their name came from, what it was like being on tour, what happened to Scott, etc. It also has many cool photos of the band and lots of extras (like weird stories about their manager, things you missed in the videos, etc.). This book is a must have for any blink fan. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because I would have sacrificed pictures on almost every page for more stories and observations. All in all, this was a great read for anyone who likes the band. Its not just for high school kids looking for something extreme to relate to, or someone just looking to be different. It really is a cool book for all types of fans.

In the decades before the Cold War ended the United States, like virtually every other country throughout history, used its military power to defend against threats to important American international interests or to the American homeland itself. When the Cold War concluded, however, it embarked on military interventions in places where American interests were not at stake. Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia and Kosovo had no strategic or economic importance for the United States, which intervened in all of them for purely humanitarian reasons. Each such intervention led to efforts to transform the local political and economic systems. The invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, launched in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, turned into similar missions of transformation. None of them achieved its aims.

Mission Failure describes and explains how such missions came to be central to America's post-Cold War foreign policy, even in relations with China and Russia in the early 1990s and in American diplomacy in the Middle East, and how they all failed. Mandelbaum shows how American efforts to bring peace, national unity, democracy, and free-market economies to poor, disorderly countries ran afoul of ethnic and sectarian loyalties and hatreds and foundered as well on the absence of the historical experiences and political habits, skills, and values that Western institutions require.

The history of American foreign policy in the years after the fall of the Berlin Wall is, he writes, "the story of good, sometimes noble, and thoroughly American intentions coming up against the deeply embedded, often harsh, and profoundly un-American realities of places far from the United States. I'm not an historian, actually little more than an average reader, and I've never before submitted a review through Amazon, but I simply must say something about the importance of this book. I've found so much vital background information in this cogent presentation. I'm pleased to have read it at this time because of the nonpartisan clarification it offers on critical issues before us in this election year. I'm hoping many more people will read this before making final assessments of 2016 candidates and their wide-ranging statements on future foreign policy. Voter opinions must be based on facts and the facts are here for the taking. I consider this book one of the most valuable books I've read in a long time. It deserves wide readership.
