Very engrossing!

In my college career I've found most of the books I've used to be tedious and unengaging. This was a pleasant exception. The authors actually made a fairly dry subject very lively and interesting. I normally sell of my texts after the class is done but I'm going to hang on to this one. Well done!

Best your going to find

Having seen many texts on transport phenomena, Mills is definitely one of the best. Heat and mass transfer is a jumble of many different topics and applications, but Mills manages to give the subject some cohesion and derives most important results from the basic conservation equations. Heat and mass transfer are inherently convoluted because they so frequently fuse theoretical and experimental ideas. Anyone who complains about this text has not seen the other crap that lurks out there. The problem with most of these cover-all textbooks is they cram too much into one text and lack a logical progression of ideas. Nonetheless, Mills is probably the best book out there for an undergrad introductory transport class.

Excellent Text

I had the plesure of using this book while an undergrad at UCLA taking both the transport class and an intermediate heat transfer class with Professor Mills. He, like his text, were thorough and to the point. I never found myself lost in his book due to his excellent explanations on difficult subject matter. Don't expect this subject to be easy - it's anything but that. However, this book does an excellent job of treating many complicated physical systems as well as can be expected.

Not a bad choice for an undergrad text

This was the book used when I took heat transfer. I found it to be a good supplement to the lectures and do still refer to it. I wish Mills spent more time on using numerical analysis.
Like Any text book it has to be opened and read to be useful

About the Author
Mohamedou Slahi was born in Mauritania. He left at the age of eighteen on a scholarship to study in Germany. In the early 1990s, he interrupted his studies and went to Afghanistan to join al-Qaeda units fighting - with American support - the Soviet-backed government in Kabul. He returned to Germany in 1992, completing his engineering degree and living and working first in Germany and then, for a few months, in Montreal. After his November 2001 apprehension by a Jordanian commando team, he was held in isolation and interrogated for the next seven and a half months before they concluded he had had no involvement with the Millennium plot. Nevertheless, a CIA rendition team captured him and on August 5, 2002, he was incarcerated at Guantánamo. Despite being cleared by multiple courts and foreign governments, he remains imprisoned. He has never been charged with a crime.

Larry Siems is a writer and human rights activist and for many years directed the Freedom to Write program at PEN American Center. He is the author, most recently, of The Torture Report: What the Documents Say About America's Post-9/11 Torture Program. He lives in New York.

The human face of Guantanamo and American torture

This book is an incredible, first-person story about imprisonment, torture, and life in the secret world of Guantanamo. It is complete with government redaction bars as well as footnotes tying the narrative to declassified documents. Especially interesting are the human relationships formed with guards and interrogators throughout Slahi’s ordeal. Sadly, this tale illustrates the plight of many other Gitmo prisoners.

A little of Slahi’s story: he’s from Mauritania and when he was 18 went to college in Germany on a scholarship. In the early 1990s, he interrupted his studies to fight with al-Qaeda units against the communist government in Afghanistan (the U.S. supported anti-communist forces). He returned to Germany a few years later and got his degree. In November 2001 he went to his local police station in Mauritania to answer questions about suspected involvement in a terrorist plot – he’s been a prisoner ever since but never charged with a crime. He was rendered by the CIA to Jordan and Afghanistan for more interrogation before being sent to Guantanamo in 2002.

Slahi was one of two so-called “Special Projects” whose treatment Donald Rumsfeld personally approved – treatment that included extreme isolation, sleep deprivation, sexual molestation, frigid rooms, stress positions, and death threats against both Slahi and his mother. Military prosecutors have said that they declined to prosecute him because he was tortured or because they could simply not find anything to charge him with.

In 2010, a federal district court judge ordered him released, but the Obama administration successfully appealed and the case was sent back to the district court with instructions to use looser standards to decide whether someone can be held. And so Slahi remains locked up indefinitely, 13 years and counting -- for doing NOTHING.

this book is a must read

A really sad and engaging book. It makes me question my status as an american- for all of our country's greatness, we do some really horrible things for no good reason, and this book is a brilliant example of that behavior. Everybody should read this, because if our leaders don't change the way we deal with the rest of the world, things are going to get bad for all of us quickly.

Omar Santos, CISSP No. 463598, Principal Engineer of the Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT), leads engineers and incident managers in investigating and resolving Cisco product vulnerabilities. He has held IT and cybersecurity positions for 20 years, and has designed, implemented, and supported secure networks for enterprises and the U.S. government. Formerly technical leader within the Cisco World Wide Security Practice and TAC, he has led industry-wide initiatives to harden critical infrastructure. He is the author of several books including Cisco ASA, CCNA Security, NetFlow, and many other cyber security topics.

Panos Kampanakis, CCIE No. 28561, CISSP No. 367831, is a Technical Marketing Engineer in the Cisco Security and Trust Organization (S&TO). Kampanakis has extensive experience with cryptography, security automation, vulnerability management and cyber security. He presents on security at Cisco Live, participates in standards bodies to provide interoperability for security information sharing, cryptography and PKI; and works with the Cisco PSIRT to mitigate vulnerabilities. His interests include next-generation and post-quantum cryptography, cryptographic interoperability, and IoT security.

Aaron Woland, CCIE No. 20113 , Principal Engineer in the Cisco Security Business Group, works with Cisco’s largest customers. He specializes in secure access and identity deployments with ISE, solution enhancements, standards development, and futures. A CCNA Security must have

Must have if you're studying for CCNA Security. The screenshots alone are almost worth it if you are unfamiliar with the technology. Answered a lot of questions about IPS 'flow' that I couldn't find anywhere else. Sometimes too much presumptive info in too little space.

The Rhythm of Life

Twenty short stories that explore the experience of women; their family bonds; relationships with men. Ted's wife wins the lottery and decides to leave, the veneer of perfection in their marriage torn away. Miss Simkin's the dressmaker recalls her brief romance; Catherine cannot leave all she knows to marry, Mrs Cedric Berrington is at the hairdressers, beauty is the only weapon she has to keep her husband....All of these tales are absolute perfection. Marjorie Barnard pre dates but reminds very much of Alice Munro in her detailed precise style, and perhaps Raymond carver in the way we gain brief glimpses and moments in a persons life.
Marjorie barnard was highly recommended to me by my mother of all people-which is probably why I took so long to ever get around to reading this, but I am so pleased I did-and had kept the book all these years- as this is a true reading pleasure; a completely timeless classic. Like my mother did with me, I can't recommend this highly enough to you-particularly if you enjoy the great Alice Munro. A real gem.

SHOCKINGLY SMART, HEARTFELT, AND INSPIRING READ

I didn't expect to like this book… at all. I’m a middle-aged man -- not exactly Taylor Swift’s demographic. And – full disclosure – I’m in a related industry and was sent the book for free in return for an honest review. However, I do think Taylor Swift is impressively talented and enjoy a lot of her music. So I figured, Why not? and took it with me on a plane trip.

I was truly stunned at how much I enjoyed the read. It made a part of my trip breeze along effortlessly and amusingly. Not only is the writing clever, snappy, and engaging, Taylor’s story as it’s told here is wholly compelling, with surprising twists and ups-and-downs. Moreover, she may have been born with certain innate gifts, as well as born into a family that afforded her certain advantages. But that and $2.10 will buy you a Starbucks Grande coffee. This young lady is a study in determination and perseverance which readers, young and old, and not merely her fans, would find fascinating. I have much more respect for her now, having read this, and I had a fun time doing so. I recommend this book unabashedly, certainly to Taylor lovers, but also to parents who aren’t sure what message Taylor sends to their kids, as well as stogy oldsters who just want a great, inspiring jolt of youthful exuberance and human can-do-itness.

TOLD WITH LOTS OF HEART AND EMOTION

I bought this for my teenage daughters who are big Taylor Swift fans. I decided to have a look and read it first and I was pleasantly surprised. The writing was terrific and Parker told the story of Taylor Swift's journey from birth to super stardom very cinematically and with a ton of heart. Five stars.

Taylor Swift's compelling story of talent and determination told in a very readable style

I'm certainly not in her targeted demographic, but I've been entertained by her over the past few years. Of course I knew nothing about her background really. This breezy book is extremely well written and thorough, without being one of those sordid tell alls. It is a well written, with humor, of Swift's determination and confidence (a lesson to us all!) to make the most of her gifts. And she most certainly has. So it should serve as an inspiration to particular females who "got talent" - not just to be a pop star, but to succeed in whatever is one's chosen profession. I came away have more respect and appreciation for this lovely singer. High recommend.
