About the Author
Guthema Roba currently works for the Hennepin County library. He was born and partly grew up in Ethiopia, East Africa, before he immigrated to the United States. His book Please Come Home is a collection of mystical poetry that remind us to live in the present moment. He says life becomes a prayer when fully lived and celebrated each day. Good poetry, he adds, is the one that brings us closer to our heart. He writes poetry on a daily basis and lives in Minneapolis with his wife and daughter.

Please Come Home, by Guthema Roba is a book of poems that is a welcome alternative to the intellectual obscurity and dryness of much modern American poetry. These poems are effortless to read. In fact, they don't require energy: they provide energy. They gently draw the mind into the heart, quite literally, infusing warmth into the body and clarity into the intellect. The crystal-hearted openness of these poems brings American poetry back to the ancient devotional tradition of Rumi, Hafiz, Mirabai, Laladev, Saint John of the Cross, Saint Theresa. Reading these poems is a spiritual practice of healing.

As a poetry teacher before retirement from official teaching, I would have loved to introduce your exquisite work to young people and feel sure English teachers will be doing that now. Guthema's words are pure magic and they dance within the heart and soul like a song of joy! He writes with a joy and melody that stay and linger within your heart, long after you have read it. Relatively Good

Advanced Mathematics: Precalculus with Discrete Mathematics and Data Analysis. This book consists of: a refresher of Algebraic Expressions and Application in the form of the function (linear, quadratic, and other polynomial), Logarithms and exponents, a review of Analytic Geometry and Trigonometry, Discrete mathematics as it applies to Sequences and Series, Matrices, Combinatorics, Probability, Statistics, Modeling, and Limits and an introduction of Calculus in the form of the derivative.
The book states that an emphasis on application is an intrinsic part of it, this, however is not really the case. The book, while showing an appropriate number of application problems in certain sections, lacks that application horribly in others. However, these lacking sections are few enough that it deserves a fair amount of credit in the attempt.

This book fails to give adequate examples at the beginning of each section and provide enough information about the given topic. Further, the examples that are provided are either 1) easy in relation to the actual problems in the "written exercises" section or 2) not relevant to the actual problems in the "written exercises" section. Also, the examples that are given sometimes miss key steps and are therefore confusing. This leads to much frustration. The actual problems though can be quite challenging and appropriate if the reader actual understands the basic underlying principles of the problems. However, the book on occasion supplies inaccurate or incorrect solutions to these problems (the odd number problems in the "written exercises," the "class exercises," and "chapter test" solutions are located in the back of the book).

I happen to have on hand another trignometery book. Although old and coming from a pre-calculator age (never mind a pre-computer age as well), this book at least supplies accuarte examples at the beginning of each section. I recommend (although out of print): New Plane And Spherical Trigonometry, Surveying, And Navigation by G.A. Wentworth. Ginn And Company, 1903; or just about any other trigonometry math textbook or precalculus textbook ever published.

Excellent!

This is an EXCELLENT advanced mathematics book. I am currently a high school student using this book on my own. Never mind the criticism of the "unclear explanations" in each section by the other reviewers. The book briefly states what is needed to do the exercises, and the majority of the "major" theorems in advanced mathematics are proved in the exercises themselves (in fact, that is why so many of the exercises are so challenging). In this way (other books just prove the theorems for you and allow people just to memorize the proof), the author allows you to figure things out for yourself. This book also has a wide scope. However, one tiny fault of this book is that it does not convince you of some of the important facts (and these theorems are definitely not beyond the level of the book), for example the "Rule of 72." Also, this book is not for the average person. It requires a lot of critical thinking. Therefore, if you are not a real math person, I would suggest you get this book along with another advanced mathematics book with more detailed explanations so that you can compare and contrast the two.

Great Reading, couldn't put down

This is one of those books that you cannot put down once you open it up and begin to read.
It traces the history of the Iron Cross from its humble beginings in 1800 through to its well known periods of the First and Second World Wars, to its final metamorphis in 1957.
The book is huge over 530 pages long and is packed with excellent photographs of all the awards including closeup shots of makers marks and construction.
It has very rare awards illustrated in great colour photos of the Third Reich era medals such as, the Golden/Diamonds/swords and knights Cross with swords etc, It also covers such awards as the German Cross and Honor roll clasps to name a few.
One very interesting aspect is the fantastic pictures of award documents and award cases which went with the medals.
At the rear of the book is a number of interviews from holders of the Higher grades of the Knights cross which I found to be of great interest.
The Iron/Knights Cross is probably one of the more recognizable symbols of the german armed forces throughout its wars, and even today examples command huge sums of money on the open market.
This book is a very valuable tool if you are a collector for it shows the makers marks, construction, and symbols to help identify the fakes from the real ones with great photos.

The Iron Time, My Views.

The delivery for this book, seemed to take forever, but it was well worth it! If you have an interest in the complete history of the Iron Cross, then this is a fantastic book with a wealth of research covering the entire life span of this decoration. I know there are a few other publications which also specialise on the Iron Cross, but I have not yet been fortunate to obtain these, so one cannot provide a fair comparison!
However, what makes this book special, for me, is the inclusion of many clear, and detailed, photographs of the rarer awards, such as the Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds, Grand Cross, German Cross in Gold with Diamonds, etc., which are a must for those of us who have never before seen quality photographs of these, let alone viewed them in the flesh.
The reason I could not give the book 5 stars is due to the number of reproductions I spotted. Firstly, let me stress than I am NOT an expert, but a collector and like all good collectors, I research a piece before making a purchase. My research has highlighted many fakes which are currently on the market, and I was disappointed to find some of these in this book. Given that, in some of these cases, the recipients insist these are their original awards, it would be impolite of the author to say otherwise, but I feel that comments should have been included to say these do not confirm to known originals. One has to remember that these books are a constant source of reference to the collector and as such these need to be perfect! In fairness, the perfect reference book has not yet been written which covers these awards, or has it? What if this is as good as it gets?
Personally, I would like to have seen more variations on construction methods on the 1st Class from the 1914/1939 period but one has to respect that this is a research on the history of the Iron Cross and not a catalogue of variations.
In summary, a very fine book, just let down slightly by a few dubious pieces!

A very complete book

This is the most compete book I ever had about the german Iron cross. It is fully illustrated with a lot of details. It will helps a lot those who begin a medal collection. The other book about the same subject are often uncomplete and poor illustrated. It is a plus for a good military collection.

If I had a friend that didn’t want to spend the time or money on classes I would recommend this book

I learned to sew from taking classes, after reading many different how-to books. If I had a friend that didn’t want to spend the time or money on classes I would recommend this book. The tone is straightforward and easy to follow (not weird or hipster).
The glossary is fairly complete.

There is a photo for each step of every technique. Sometimes how-to books leave out photos of “easy” or “obvious” steps for space, but this one does not! And really, no step is "easy" or "obvious" to a beginner so this part of the book is quite valuable to a "true" beginner.

If I had a more challenging sewing pattern that I wanted to sew, especially vintage patterns that sometimes didn’t come with step-by-step instructions, I would definitely refer to the project instructions in this book (especially for a jacket) to assemble the pattern pieces. (I don’t know if I would run to my sewing machine to sew up some of the projects in this book [elastic skirt] though).

I figured sewing was a skill I should probably learn, and just purchased my first sewing machine. I bought several books to go along with my machine, as I wasn't sure where to begin. I paged through most of them and grew intimidated by the sometimes undefined words, or instructions without enough images for me to grasp what needed to be done. This was the one book out of the four I purchased that I read from cover to cover immediately. This book is perfect for people like me, who have never sewn a stitch, or been around someone who has. I felt intimidated after unboxing my machine, but this book made me feel confident enough to begin my first project.

In short, if you've never done a thing with sewing before and want to learn, this is the book you should start with. The images are clear, the directions are precise, and it goes into enough detail that I felt like I could progress without feeling frustrated.

Great book for learning to sew- child or adult!

I have always wanted to learn to sew and could never quite figure it out on my own. This book is brilliant!! It defines all the sewing terms you need to know and starts you with the very basics. Who knew I had been sewing buttons on all wrong. I was thrilled to see the book shows how to use a pattern so once I get the basics down I will be able to sew anything. This book even helped me figure out my sewing machine! The projects are well thought out and the instructions are very clear. First Time Sewing is not just well written, it is well organized and the pictures are very helpful and lovely. I have done two projects from the book and they turned out great. This book world be a great gift for anyone young or old that wants to learn to sew. I cannot wait to try more of the projects. Next up for me is the basic elastic waist skirt. My sumer wardrobe will rock- this book is worth every penny.

I have all of Michael's books and CDs and you can't beat them for providing the best information on how to tie Atlantic Salmon Flies, both classic and contemporary. If you want to learn to tie salmon flies, GET THESE BOOKS and especially his new CD set. Can't go wrong. Enjoyable reading and clear instructions.

Excellent book on some truly beautiful salmon flies. The instructions on tying them are easy to follow and the DVD that is included on tying techniques is VERY helpful and answers a lot of questions. Recommend very highly!

Another Classic

FYI--although the Amazon listing has this book as a "paperback", the book is a HARD COVER edition. The companion DVD is in a paper sleeve attached to the inside back cover. Anyone familiar with Michael Radencich's other fly tying books and photography will find this new book to be another absolute classic in the annals of salmon fly tying literature.

I'm looking forward to really getting into this volume and the DVD (adding the DVD was another brilliant move to help fly tiers to become more proficient sooner). What's more to say? This is the authoritative, the definitive volume for luminescence experiments from theory to all of the most useful applications. It is readable, dense, useful and indispensable if you do fluorescence, lifetime measurements, energy transfer studies, etc., etc.

A masterpiece

Of all the reference books I have on fluorescence spectroscopy, Dr. Lakowicz's book is the most comprehensive. It is a masterpiece. His book covers many aspects of fluorescent biological systems but it also treats inorganic systems. The foundations of fluorescence and fluorescence spectroscopy are quite comprehensive and very well covered. This is an excellent text and reference book for any person involved not only in bio-related research, but in any discipline involving fluorescence.

Excellent textbook

Nothing to do with rubbish collection of chapters made of friends and friends of friends and me-too sections, called books...

This is an excellent book, as all useful reference books should be, like those of the old times: well written with a unique logic line, uniform notations and plots. Among others, quite low price for the quality of paper and number of pages. I would even say that this is a very good introductory book: it worked well with me, an EE.
